Brochterbecker Landpartie – the doorstep loop from Brochterbeck
If ever a hike starts literally on the doorstep, this is it: the Brochterbecker Landpartie is our favourite way into the Tecklenburger Land.
From the village square, Moorstraße leads to the idyllic mill pond with curious alpacas, timber-framed houses and a Kneipp pool. A shady woodland path climbs gently to the Dornstein rest area, where a Teutoschleifen recliner frames the wide view over the Münsterland.
Along the hillside edge, old – partly flooded – quarries open up geological views, complete with a mini-canyon. The charming Haselnusspfad (hazelnut path) leads back into the village: short, family-friendly and with a geocaching option.

Animal encounters & insider tips
Right by the millpond graze four curious alpacas – Al Capone, Vasco, Magnum and Peter Pan; feed comes from a dispenser, mostly at weekends. Geese and goats potter about along the path, and in late summer there are free wild blackberries to pick, plus free wild apples at the various apple meadows (Apfelwiesen) along the way.
The family-friendly loop is easy to extend: along the way it meets the Teutoschleife Dörenther Klippen and the Teutoschleifchen Dreikaiserstuhl. For a break, the historic Gasthaus Franz in the heart of Brochterbeck is a welcoming stop.
Base camp for Brochterbecker Landpartie – the doorstep loop from Brochterbeck is our hillside holiday apartment with garden and balcony, right in Brochterbeck. The map below shows the full route – and, with the house symbol (🏠), exactly where the apartment sits.
